{"id":211,"date":"2020-06-25T11:26:26","date_gmt":"2020-06-25T11:26:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.sps.ed.ac.uk\/educationandsociety\/?page_id=211"},"modified":"2020-07-02T12:03:32","modified_gmt":"2020-07-02T12:03:32","slug":"education-and-the-far-right","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sps.ed.ac.uk\/educationandsociety\/education-and-the-far-right\/","title":{"rendered":"Workshop: Education and the Far Right"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Education and the Far Right: towards an interdisciplinary research agenda<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Interdisciplinary workshop, funded by the British Academy\/Leverhulme Trust<\/p>\n<p>University of Edinburgh, 3-4 December 2020<\/p>\n<p>With the recent resurgence of far-right populist parties and movements across Europe, liberal democracy and its educational foundations have become increasingly contested. While the far right has come to constitute an influential and enduring actor in the European political and societal debate, we still lack systematic knowledge on its representatives\u2019 educational views, these views\u2019 origin and development in the last decades, how they are being brought into politics and with what effect.<\/p>\n<p>We invite researchers from political science, education, history and related disciplines to lend their distinctive perspective to these questions and contribute to laying the ground for a new research agenda in this interdisciplinary field.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop will be held in 2 half-day sessions at the University of Edinburgh , accompanied by a panel discussion open to a broader audience. Confirmed speakers are Sarah de Lange (University of Amsterdam), Andrea Mammone (Royal Holloway University of London), and Jenny Ozga (University of Oxford). In case in-person events will not yet be possible, the seminars will take place online\/in hybrid form.
